According to ongoing rumors, global e-commerce giant Amazon is about to expand its operations to Turkey market in 2018
If you’re an avid LinkedIn user or regularly checking out Amazon.jobs, you may already have noticed Amazon’s rising hiring and recruiting activity in Turkey.
The entrance of Amazon into Turkish market is not new, in 2011, they have invested in online flower delivery service CicekSepeti.com, which was later sold to Delivery Hero for a whopping 589 million dollars and also transferred some of its exec level employees to Germany for education purposes before the big opening of Amazon.com.tr, which currently redirects to Amazon.de.
Amazon.com.tr redirects you to the German version, but Turkish people can still navigate the site in Turkish and place their orders. A full customer support in Turkish language also has been provided by native Amazon associates.
Currently, free shipping opportunity has already been provided for orders over 49 Euro. But according to same report, Amazon plans to open a 10.000 m2 warehouse for its operations in the region.
Turkey, according to Hurriyet Daily News, Turkey has one of the biggest e-commerce potentials in the region with its young population and growing internet user numbers. According to data shared by TUSIAD (Turkish Industry and Business Association ) e-commerce spendings have grown from about 6.6 billion euros in 2015 to 7.5 billion euros this year and it continuous to grow yearly between 3 – 5 percent.
Unfortunately, it’s not possible to confirm the news from Amazon’s public announcements and reports and we couldn’t get a satisfying response to our questions. But it’s highly understandable why the company prefers to go through this process as silently as possible, considering the possible impact of their entrance to the country on the regional e-commerce industry.
