Facebook has been banned in China since 2009 (Instagram since 2014), and since then the company has been making great efforts to re-enter the country. According to the New York Times, CEO Mark Zuckerberg is trying to develop a code for China’s censorship laws. There is no information on whether this code will be used, or whether China will still allow Facebook again, but apparently, the code is accessible to employees.
This tool is different from the previous blocking codes because it allows the system to include a third party and delete the news and direct transmissions directly. In this regard, when the Chinese government wants to remove Facebook from a news report, they can directly censor the news they want. It looks like Facebook will do everything to regain access to China’s large population.
Some sources fear that this tool will be used for evil purposes in different regions of the world. For now, there is no change, Chinese users will either continue to use Weibo, or they will access Facebook via VPN.
