Small design, yet incredibly loud and high-quality sound
Sonos is one of the most reputable brands in the wireless HiFi systems field and has been on the market since 2002. The new Play series includes Play: 1, Play: 3 and Play: 5 models. Also, as we will see in the following paragraphs shortly, Sonos has another special product named PlayBar for those who want to equip their house with a wireless audio system, their newly introduced Wireless Soundbase Speaker for your TV also might be picked up, read our full Sonos Playbase Review here. But today, we are reviewing the family’s little brother; Sonos Play:1
With its compact and small size, the Play:1 is a tiny device that offers a very powerful sound output. There is a normal and tweeter speaker on the back of the crest that covers the body. Of course, one of the essentials of Sonos speakers is Wi-Fi connectivity. It is inevitable to make some sacrifices about the sound as the size diminishes, but it seems that Sonos has done a good job with Play: 1 and made one of the best products at this size.
Sonos Play: 1 does not have a built-in battery, so you have to plug in the box, but it’s easy to move. You can place your wireless network anywhere in your home without going out of the wi-fi range. One of the missing points is that audio input via wired connection is not supported, as is the case with other Sonos products. In other words, it is not possible to connect the speaker to other devices with 3.5mm headphone jack.
Sonos uses a unique and proprietary wi-fi transmission technology in its wireless HiFi systems, ie standards such as Apple AirPlay and Bluetooth are not available. In order to be able to use the speaker, you need to install a special Sonos application, it’s available on iOS and Android market and can be used both on smartphones, tablets, and computers.
As well as listening to the music from your libraries, Sonos app also connects to Spotify, iTunes, Deezer and thousands of other internet radios.
Top and bottom of the speaker made from plastic and Wi-Fi antennas are stored there. At the top, there are only play/pause and volume buttons. On the back, there is Ethernet input power input for wired network connection.
Sonos Play:1 can easily be setup wirelessly through the Android and iOS application, unfortunately, Windows Phone users have to use the app via their computers because it doesn’t support Windows mobile phones.
Right after completing the installation, you can start to enjoy high-quality music and theater at home
On the other hand, if you have more than one Sonos loudspeaker in your home, it is absolutely possible to manage them from one application and play the same or different music at different places in the home. For example, you can enjoy your favorite movie while your children listening to the music in their rooms.
You can also buy two pairs of Play:1 loudspeakers and put them right next to your computer, or buy 4 Play:1 and a PlayBar and turn your living room into a truly wireless home theater.
Even though you may experience some distortion with high bass, Sonos Play:1 is still one of the best Wireless speakers that offer clear HiFi sound.
Should I Buy Sonos Play:1?
If you’re looking for a wireless and portable size speaker that offers great audio quality Sonos Play:1 should be your first choice. Also, those who would like to set up a big and professional home cinema system and are looking for wireless products, Play: 1 can also be your go-to product.
